Red PPF vs Red Car Vinyl Wrap: What Is the Difference?
Material Differences

Red PPF is typically made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU); its combination of thickness and elasticity helps it provide both protection and an attractive appearance. Red car wraps are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC); they are thinner and more flexible, allowing them to conform well to the curves of the vehicle’s body.
Key Features
Red PPF not only gives the vehicle a red appearance but also protects the surface of a car, which makes it suitable for customers who are looking for long-term paint protection. Red car wraps focus more on changing the vehicle’s color and are ideal for projects that need a color change and keep the costs down at the same time.
Self-Healing Ability
Some red PPF products feature a self-healing function. They can repair tiny scratches when exposed to heat (such as from a heat gun). Red car wraps generally do not have this feature.
Thickness
Red PPF is thicker and offers better impact resistance, helping the vehicle withstand impacts from flying rocks. If you’re looking to create a product with higher protective performance, we recommend choosing red PPF.
Installation Methods

Red PPF is typically installed using the wet application method, which requires greater precision; red car wraps are mostly installed using the dry application method, allowing for quick installation.
Cost
Because red PPF is thicker and offers better protection, it typically costs more than a red car wrap, depending on the surface treatment process and your customization requirements. Red car wraps are better suited for budget-friendly products.
| Comparison | Red PPF | Red Car Wrap |
| Material | TPU | PVC |
| Key Features | Color Change & Paint Protection | Color Change & Exterior Upgrades |
| Self-Healing | Heat-Activated Self-Healing (Topcoat) | Generally not supported |
| Thickness | Thicker, with better impact resistance | Thinner, with weaker protective performance |
| Installation | Wet application | Dry application (support quick installation) |
| Cost | Typically more expensive | More cost-effective |
| Best for | High-end vehicles and those prioritizing protective performance | Customized modifications & budget-friendly projects |
How to Properly Install Red PPF?
Red PPF is typically installed using the wet application method, which needs more skilled installation techniques.
Surface Cleaning

Use an iron remover and a clay bar to clean dust and embedded particles. In addition, wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to remove grease.
Paint Inspection
Inspect the paintwork for scratches and dents. Repair these scratches and dents to ensure the application surface is smooth.
Cutting the Film
Cut the red PPF to the appropriate size for each body panel, making sure to leave sufficient overlap for edge wrapping.
Applying Application Solution
Spray application solution onto both the paint surface and the adhesive side of the red PPF, which can make the movement and positioning more easier.
Positioning the Film
Place the red PPF over the target area and align it from the center toward the edges. Then, press down and remove excess solution and air bubbles through a squeegee.
Edge and Corner Treatment

Stretch and heat the film over complex corners to ensure the red PPF conforms to the vehicle’s contours. Carefully check the edges and seams, securing them to prevent peeling.
Final Inspection
Carefully check the car to make sure that the surface is smooth and the edges are securely bonded.
How to Wash Red PPF?
Properly cleaning the surface of red PPF can help extend their service life. Note that it is not recommended to wash newly installed red PPF for 24 to 48 hours, and it is best to avoid exposing the car to water for 5 to 7 days after installation.
Remove Dirt

Rinse the dust and dirt off the surface of the red PPF with clean water. Be careful not to use a high-pressure water gun, because this may cause excessive impact on the film’s surface.
Use a Mild Car Wash Solution
Use a pH-neutral car wash solution. Then, gently wipe the surface with a microfiber towel.
Rinse the Surface Thoroughly
Rinse off any remaining car wash solution from the surface of the red PPF with clean water, taking care to rinse the corners to avoid the solution from lingering there for too long.
Dry the PPF Gently

Absorb the moisture from the surface of the red PPF with a clean towel. Alternatively, use low-pressure air to dry it.
Share these tips with your end-customers to ensure long service of the red PPF.
There are several reasons why red PPF may peel off:
- Improper surface preparation: If there is dirt, dust or wax on the vehicle’s surface during installation, it may prevent the adhesive layer from bonding properly.
- Excessive stretching: If the installer stretches the film too much during application, it may cause the film to shrink later on, which may lead to the edges curling upward.
- Improper heating: The edges and complex curves of the vehicle’s body require proper heating with a heat gun to make sure that the film adheres securely.
- Washing too soon: Washing the vehicle too soon after installation may reduce the effectiveness of the adhesive.
